Hard to Believe

It's hard to believe that Trouper will be 15 on December 25th. Look at that face!

Don't you think I'm handsome, mom? Huh? Huh?!

Holy Dog, Batman!

The blanket in the background  is  was Buster's favorite.
Oliver took a liking to it, too.
So much so that he ate it. (The dollar bill is for perspective, not dessert.)

He's eaten gigantic holes out of at least five blankets, and the fabric is nowhere to be found. Well, that's not entirely true. It's found in the backyard a day or two later. This is not a good thing. We have to watch him like a hawk for his own safety.

Lucy Update

Looking much better!
Hey, not so close, mom! You're making my nose look huge!
Little Lucy went to the vet yesterday. Thankfully, her kidneys seem to be about the same - so whatever is ailing her is more likely a virus than related to her renal disease.

The vet gave Lucy a shot of Cerenia for her nausea, and started her on famotidine, metronidazole, and IV fluids to get her back on her feet. She ate a little last night, which practically had me dancing around the house! This morning she's much more awake and aware - she was very dehydrated yesterday and the fluids really made a difference. I'll give her more fluids this morning and touch base with the vet later today.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers for my Lulu! We truly appreciate it and treasure having friends like you!

Power of the Paw for Lucy, please!

Lucy isn't well. She's been sick since Saturday. She's been spitting up (not vomiting) and has had awful diarrhea. She isn't eating, but she's drinking some water. She won't eat ground beef, chicken, turkey... nothing strikes her fancy.

She has renal failure, and I know she won't be with me forever. We'll go to the vet today, so I'm asking for your Power of the Paw. It's so hard to watch my best friend for the past 14 1/2 years suffer and be so sick. Thank you, as ever, for your support.

Wag n' Swag - A Fundraiser for Sandy Pets

Our great friend and Mayzie's mom, Amber, has started a fundraiser for the pets affected by superstorm Sandy. If you live in our area, you're still seeing pictures of devastation, destruction, and displaced pets. Amazingly, people are still without power almost three weeks after the storm. And so many people have no homes to go back to. Homes were either flattened, washed away, or are deemed unsafe and therefore uninhabitable. Rescuers are just getting to pets left behind, and they need our help.

Amber has one of the BIGGEST hearts we've ever met, and hopes to raise at least $1500 for pets impacted by the storm. And she needs our help! Read more at Mayzie's blog, or click on the graphic below to get started.

Today is the last day to give, so don't delay - do it now. You'll be entered to win one of two fantastic Swag Bags!

Thank you on behalf of all the pets affected by superstorm Sandy, and huge tail wags and whisker kisses to Amber and Mayzie!

Let's get those tails affected by Sandy wagging again!
Click on the graphic above to give whatever amount you can!

An Award from A New Friend!

We have a new - and gorgeous - friend named Remy over at OneBlueDog. Remy has just awarded us the Super Sweet  Blogging Award - isn't that wonderful! And I don't know how Remy knew we loved cupcakes, but it's very, very true! Don't these look yummy?!

As with many awards, this one comes with a few questions - these are our human's answers;  no chocolate for us!

1) Cookies or Cake - That's a hard one... What type of cookies, and what kind of cake? I love sweets, but a good carrot cake takes the, um cake!

2) Chocolate or Vanilla - That's easy! White chocolate!

3) Favorite Sweet Treat - Hmmmmm... can I go with white chocolate again... or M&Ms! Or Reese's Cups... Or...

4) When do you crave sweet things the most - Haha!! All the time, but mostly after a deeelish meal!

5) If you had a sweet nickname, what would it be - Oh, probably Sugar Butt - have to lay the blame somewhere!

Now, we have to convey this award to a Baker's Dozen of blogging friends. That's hard - there are so many wonderful bloggy friends we love!

Phew! It's not easy to choose only 13 of the hundreds of bloggers we follow! Enjoy the award and pass it along!!

Germs: Your pillow = Your toilet seat

I just read this piece in The Smithsonian. Naturally, I'll never sleep in my bed again, but it made me think of people who don't like dogs or cats on their beds. "They're filthy animals!" Well, read this article and even sleeping without animals on your bed will lead you to leaning in a corner vs. lying in your bed for your next nap.
Toes, exposed.

I, like many of my animal-loving friends, let my dogs sleep on my bed. Not only do they sleep on my bed, they're often under the cover. Or on the pillow. And, it's not unusual for there to be no room for me... They take up all the space: I'm sure it's scientifically proven that dogs will expand to the area given. Like water freezing in a bottle.

Her favorite spot!

When I was a kid, the dogs weren't allowed on beds or any other furniture. Actually, I was lucky to have a dog! My mother was a clean freak who never had pets in her life and you could eat off of her floor. This is a true statement.
Maaaaaa, I don't wanna go to school...

Thankfully, she was tempered by my father who was a huge animal lover and grew up with all sorts of pets, from dogs to goats to horses. As a matter of fact, my parents had horses when they first got married, and my father even competed in shows. (I'm so sorry I wasn't around then - I love horses. They're just big dogs to me, and yeah, they probably would sleep on my bed if I could pull it off!)

But I digress.

As a kid, I would yearn to have my Heidi on the bed with me! Such a wonderful girl, so loving, so loyal, so undeserving of the floor...

ZZzzzzzzzzzz....
But that was how it had to be. Dogs weren't to be on the bed, sofa, chairs, anywhere but On. The. Floor. Which is a good thing, actually; if you have a dominant dog, they should never be perched on anything. However, Heidi was not dominant! She was my pal! My sweet, loving rescue I got at the age of nine! The floor?! Really, mom??

So the question to all of you is: Do your dogs, cats, ferrets, pot bellied pigs, whatever sleep on your bed? Or on that cold, hard floor...?

There's a dog hidden in here somewhere!

So Annoying!

"Does she have to bother me with that camera while I'm chewing?!"

"She's so annoying... But I am cute."

OMD! It's Charlie's Birthday!

I can't believe that Charlie turns eight today. Where has the time gone? Almost eight years ago, I rescued a puppy with silly ears and an attitude. We can't blame her for the attitude - she was found tied to a Stop sign when she was only about 10-weeks-old!

The ears never quite settled, which is a good thing! I love those garden shovels sticking out of her head. She's always on alert...

Even when she sleeps!

She's a great girl who loves playing, even in the snow...

And watching television, especially when dogs are on...

And her rope toys... She covets them!

She loves the great outdoors...

And the great indoors...

She can smile (usually when she's been bad!)...

She's an expert beggar (and always gets the treat!)...

And she's all-around Queen of the House...

No matter how you look at it, she's that dog with the silly ears and The Attitude who stole my heart!

Happy Birthday, Charlie!
